February 2018 Update

Hello All,

This update is late due to the push to have the upstairs to my new home completed so we (my family and myself) can move in. It’s really all I’ve been doing besides getting sick and wallowing in a ‘bout of seasonal affective disorder (SADs). That last one particularly hits me hard in February and is not very nice in the least but moving on.

I’m introducing a new subheading today all due to a nasty cold I caught last month. I’m a bit odd when it comes to sickness. Instead of sleeping all day, I watch documentaries and boy did I find some good ones. Not only did I get to learn but I get good ideas for characters and other things for stories. All while fighting whatever decided to infect my body, go multitasking! I’ll go into more detail in the subheading but here’s a list of what I watched: (Dis)Honesty: The Truth About Lies, Myths & Monsters, Rats, and 72 Dangerous Animals: Australia. Talk about a wide variety of topics right? All of these are currently on Netflix in my region (Canada). Unfortunately I cannot guarantee it will be in yours if you live in a different country.

The one I recommend the most for authors is (Dis)Honesty: The Truth About Lies. It gets into the human psyche and explains why people lie. A great lesson for writing characters and the lies they tell to convince themselves that what they are doing is right.

Something else I recommend is watching any documentaries, not just the ones I list, that you find interesting and writing notes about them. This way you have something to fall back on and builds a reference book/file for your personal use. Best part is that you can do this with books and web searches as well. This is something that I’ve done for years, I even have notes dating from when I was in high school doing essays.

That’s it for now. Have a great month!

Happy 2018!

Happy New Year everyone and welcome to 2018!

I can definitely say 2017 was nothing what I expected. My writing was few and far between, as was much of anything else I wanted to accomplish. ‘Tis the curse of procrastination and lack of get up and go. Being in the middle of moving and not having all my research did not help any either. I swear I’d lose my head if it wasn’t attached. That’s all about to change this year, however. This year I have a plan, goals, and armed with a large agenda.

I came to a conclusion near the end of last year that I was missing something. When I was in high-school all my written homework and projects were done before they were due. It was the same when I went to college. I was so organized I had a final project done nearly a month in advance, if I remember correctly. It made me think, how on earth was I on time for everything when I can barely keep up with it now. Then it hit me. During high-school they gave us agendas to keep track of the year and I continued this trend when I moved onto a higher level. Once I was done school I barely used an agenda since, even if I bought one.

So I made a decision to buy one. Not just some cheap one either that I would forget somewhere. I have done that yes, especially to dollar store notebooks. No. I looked for a while to find one that suited my needs. One that I enjoyed looking at and had space for me to organize the day.

I first looked at hourly planners. I went online and searched what other people used. It looked like it may just work for me. I went on to buying one to try out at the dollar store but when I brought it home just the thought of booking up all my time stressed me more than I thought it would. That planner was quickly forgotten. Next I decided I’d look for something that I was used to. A planner that had a monthly view followed by the month’s weeks. I looked at the local shops but it was slim pickings. Unfortunately it always is when shopping for nearly anything I want here. So on the next trip I took out of town I went shopping in the nearby city and boy was I ever happy with what I found. It’s larger than any agenda/planner I had before. It even comes with stickers! The only issue I have with it is it’s not pink. If there was pink I’d be over the moon but I guess it wasn’t meant to be. I suggest checking out the ban.do website, the company that made my agenda, they have more interesting things and stationary.

Since getting the agenda I’ve noticed I’ve been more organized and remembering tasks I wanted to accomplish. I honestly don’t know why I ever stopped using one. Next up will be to organize my room once the flooring and painting is finished. I can’t wait!

Moving on from that odd tale of agenda hunting.

I have decided against committing to a resolution this year. It seems whenever I do try to make one it barely makes it past a week. Rather pathetic I know. Instead I’ve made a plan and goals which I will follow. Besides this goal is a rather big and exciting for you, my readers. If everything goes according to plan, I will have my second draft to the next installment finished by the end of June with a publishing goal of early January 2019. I’d have an earlier date but I like to plan some breathing room in case life happens and some goals are not made on time. To get to the planned June end date I need to produce just over 8 chapters a month as the first draft was a total of 50 chapters. I will also be posting a daily word count on Facebook and perhaps Twitter. Check them out if you’d like to keep up with me.

I also have a plan to read 5 novels by the end of this year. It may not sound like much but it would be more than I normally read in a year. My highest count, that I can remember, was 3 novels. This doesn’t include manga because I can get through a large volume in a few hours. If only I could read that fast with other books. I’d read so many more books. I’d also have a reason for buying the amount of books that I do purchase.

During the last blog entry I promised an update schedule and I plan on delivering it. You will notice I’ve typed ‘Internet access pending’ for the months March, April, and May. This is due to not having Internet access at the new house until a tower is built in the spring. If I am able to make it to the library that day I will post it. If not, I will get it up as soon as I am able to. So here’s the plan:
January 6th – Today
February 3rd
March 10th – Internet access pending
April 7th – Internet access pending
May 5th – Internet access pending
June 9th
July 7th
August 4th
September 1st
October 6th
November 3rd
December 1st

I end this by asking, what are your plans for the new year?
Take care.

‘Tis The Season to Get Thinking

Hi all,
Life can take surprising twists and turns even if there’s only a few short weeks left till the new year. Mine come as waiting for the new house to be finish being built, learning that I seriously need a plan laid out to get stuff done, and that I have a few hours of free time between paying work and helping the building process of said new house. It’s made me realize that I need a game plan if I ever wish to get a second book out to you. Besides the house there have been other things happening that I will share with you.
During the last 2 months I have taken grammar lessons through The LearningHub. Through it I have learned that what I had been taught during elementary and high school were only the tip of what grammar is. Half of the lessons presented I had never heard of before and the more I progressed through it the harder they became. It was quite the surprised on how little I knew. Now, however, I’m equipped with a better toolbox and can catch more mistakes. I’m still no expert, far from it really. I’ll bet that I’ll still have mistakes in my drafts but I’m more confident than I was before. So if you wish to better your own writing check out The LearningHub, they’re super great. Also, if you’re not understanding the lessons they will find other resources to help you through it.
I have been able to finish reading the collection I submitted a short story to and I’ve got to admit it’s nothing what I expected. Once Upon a Broken Dream by my fellow Creativia authors has a great variety of stories, even if the prompt given to us sounded more geared towards fantasy writing. I know my entry wasn’t anywhere close to fantasy which was odd. My favorites, which I mentioned in the review I posted on Amazon, where the last two stories. I yearned for more when I read the words ‘the end’. Thankfully for one it’s was written as a mini prequel to their novel. I will definitely be checking that novel out later when I’m done reading what’s on my plate now. Best part is there’s a second collection coming out in the near future. Unfortunately I couldn’t find inspiration to get the prompt started so there’s no entry from me but I bet it will be just as awesome as the last bunch I finished reading.
I have mentioned before that I will be starting a more personal blog that I will run at the same time as this one. I am still planning on it but I have decided that it will be put on hold till I get the second novel in my series Love’s Choices finished. Though I’d love to share a more broad selection of topic, such as reviews for all the things I enjoy plus some personal blogs, I will focus on getting that book out. It’s burning a hole in my hard drive and wishes to break free. I know my alpha reader, someone who reads the first/second draft, will really appreciate it if I gave her more to read, so she tells me anyway. Plus the sooner I get it done, the sooner it will be in your hands. I know Rosa is ecstatic to be in the spotlight again (you’ll meet her soon).
As for my author blog I’ve made a point in my agenda that it will be updated every month and in the Jan 2018 update I will include the schedule I plan on following.
2018 will be the year I get organized and take over the world! Okay, maybe not the world because I’m not that ambitious, but I will definitely have myself figured out one way or the other.

Happy Holidays everyone and I pray you have a safe and merry time.

After A Long Silence

Hi there,

Again I start with another apology. Life has been one chaotic and hectic ride the last few months and finding the time and energy to do anything has been difficult. I started a new job and have been helping my parents move from my childhood home into a temporary place while we wait for a new house to be built.

Funny thing about emptying the house you lived in most of  your life, it makes for a surreal experience. This is not to say I’m not used to moving, I have done it many times, but that particular house we had lived in for a long time. Makes you realize how much you love a place until you put a deadline on how much longer you’ll be there for. It is unnerving knowing you can never return there, to a place you had made your refuge. A part of me wanted to stay. Wanted to keep that house for us. However what will come next is a new and bigger adventure.

I’ve also came to a decision to help me post more often than I have been. I’m going to be breaking this website into two different ones. This one will be dedicated to my writing, book reviews when I finally finish reading one, and any writing tips I find useful. The second one will be more for personal stuff like updates on my life and reviews/comments on anything I do. So you might find I’ll post about a video game I’m currently playing one time and the next a great tip on how to clean burnt food from the bottom of a pot.

While on the topic of burnt pots, do NOT add the baking soda to the boiling vinegar water while it’s still on the element. Guess I missed that lesson in science class but at least it made my mom laugh when I told her about the disaster.

So that’s about it for now. Once the blog is up and running I’ll make a post about it here. Until then I wish you all well and Happy Halloween!

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything on my website. A year and half to be more specific. Goes to show that I don’t update social media often and I do apologize for that. I had all gumption to get into the blogging scene only to fall flat on my face with anxiety. That’s life for you.

If you’ve seen my website before you’ll notice that I’ve changed it a bit. I’ve discovered how to work WordPress better which was an exciting moment for me. There will be more menus to select in the future with writing tips and reviews for different things, especially books. Who knows what else will worm its way into the website. Until then here’s a basic set up which I’ll improve on.

Hope all is well to you out there.

First Post & What’s in Store

Welcome to the first post.

I’m dedicating this website/blog to my thoughts and feelings about life, my writing process and my life in general if I feel like sharing. I am rather shy so this is a huge step out of my comfort zone. I’ve been reserved in what I’ve posted online (just see Facebook for my lack of posting). I want to open up to the world more, put myself out there. This will be a fun experiment.

So here will be links I found really helpful to improve my writing. You will also see my published novels as they come. So far it’s book 1 “By The Light Of A Darkened Forest” from my series “Love’s Choices”. Click this if you want to see. It’s quite an experience to know that written child is out there. It’s exciting yet terrifying. And the waiting for reviews and reader, oh the waiting, it’s torture. Still it’s so worth it if it takes one person on an adventure

You will probably see links to songs that helped me create a mood for difficult scenes or songs that I love. Music is a big part of my life. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t listen to at least one song. It inspires everything. From writing heart wrenching moments to boosting energy to get that chapter finished.

There will be dumps of opinions. I am human, though some might disagree, and have them. Normally I don’t express them but sometimes you just have to vent. Or let them out. Or scream them at the top of your lungs. Whatever works for you right?

Then there are the days that I will feel brave and post life moments. It’s rare when I do something exciting like travel but is it ever so magical when I do. Might throw in some photos because I can. Those would be mostly of forest scenery because, I admit, I’m a nature addict. I love nature and all it’s beauty. Nothing can beat a good looking tree. It’s also something that in abundance around where I live. That and lakes. Got lots of lakes. Click here if you want an example.

Hoping for great fun in the years to come!
